A little local politics....

We live in Gardner Kansas, a small town of about 16,000 people. Gardner Kansas actually has significant importance in the history of our country. Gardner is where the "trails divide," trails being the California Trail, the Santa Fe trail, and the Oregon Trail. Gardner was incorporated as a town in 1886, so we're over 150 years old. There you go, you have a little history of where we live, kind of cool huh?

For those of you that know me I have a problem keeping my mouth shut when I see something I don't like. I really don't like to get bullied. In this little town of Gardner there are some groups of people that have been here for a long time. These groups have very different and very strong ideas for the future of the city. One group, I believe, would like to see the city with dirt roads running down main street still. The other group, which I tend to lean towards, would like to see some growth in this small town.

To make a VERY long story short. The group that would like to see the town full of dirt roads and tumble weeds has come into power in the city council and has made some decision that effect the future of our town. Myself and many others have taken issue with these decision, after much public outcry from both sides through the local media, a petition with over 900 signatures, a lawsuit against us from these city council members, and now an appeal, we've been able to bring this issue to the people of our town through an election to be held on March 2nd.

This is just another one of those times in my life I wish I could have just bit my tongue and walked away, but if I would have done that then I wouldn't be me. HA! Here are some pictures of me indoctrinating my kids into local politics. Some day we'll be sitting around the table and they will talk about the cold nights that I took them door to door asking for signatures and when we stayed up a little later putting these signs together, or when we drove around on Saturday sticking signs in people's yards. It is all about the memories, you gotta make them somehow.

And if you're interested in following the rest of the story you can go to www.gardnerrecall.org or facebook us...yeah we have a facebook page, you gotta have a facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gardner-KS/Gardner-Recall-Committee/139695436264
